I just had my XR200 engine rebuilt, after it ate its cam. I went for a modded cam with about twice the lift of the stocker, a ported head, 67mm Wiseco hi-comp piston.

Now I can't get the thing to run very well. It idles a little roughly, doesn't seem to want to respond to any changes on the pilot screw. It starts without choke and the plug is as black as the ace of spades, so it must be running way rich. I would have though with all the mods, it would be way lean...???

I have had the carb apart, no obvious problems and the float level seems fine. I have the needle clip one groove higher than normal (ie leaner).

Anyone have any ideas? I'm baffled!

:yikes: Yikes! That's a lotta lift.

kiwijetpilot. If I were you I would recheck the cam timing and your valve adjustment. Sounds like something could be off. What cam did you use and what are the lift figures? Did you degree the cam in or just line up the marks?
