I have a 2001 XR 250, and supsension upgrades are the next thing on my list. Right now, it's all stock. What spring rates should i use for the forks, and shock? im approx 150 lbs w/out gear, my riding ability would probably fall between beginner and intermediat. I ride mostly trails, with occasional small jumps. I'm mostly concerned with the forks, because they're really soft, and bottom some times, but while im doing suspension work, i want to go ahead and do the back at the same time. Also, what fork oil should i use, and what level do i fill it up to?

Are there any special tools required to change out a fork spring? i would like to do the work myself, if it wouldnt cost too much in special tools.

Any help appreciated,
Michael

the easiest fix would be to go up on the fork spring rate .39 is stock
.44 would get the bike balanced better and stop the diving . the shock spring is good for 160-170lb rider.
