You might "be" from Albuquerque if....

You think there's nothing unusual about seeing hot air balloons on
your way to work.

You think Route 66 is just another street.

The only problem you have with rain is the swamp cooler stops working.

You Know how to pronounce "Madrid".

"Harvest" time means you buy 50 lbs. of roasted green chilies.

The biggest event in October is the Balloon Fiesta, not Halloween.

You know your way around the Big "I".

You pretty much count on anything having to do State or local Government to take longer than it probably should.

Your cousin comes out to visit, and stays for twelve years.

Your real Y2K fear was running out of green chile.

You have a PhD and work at Blockbuster.

Instead of a deck in your back yard you have a sweat lodge.

You think a "Monsoon" means that it rains everyday for 5 or 10
minutes.

You know someone on the "Rez".

You never leave the house without water and chapstick.

The Rio Grande runs through your neighborhood.

You can drive for 20 minutes and go from a desert floor to an Aspen forest.

You always carry a goose down jacket in your car.

You think the ultimate indulgence is a sweet roll at the "Frontier".

You know that the Mountains are East and the Volcanoes are West.

You think it's normal to have no front plate on your car.

It's been over 10 years since you have seen the ocean.

Well, in that case, you know your are from Kansas City if.....

You are more afraid of the Grandview Triangle than the Burmuda Triangle

You drive to another state to work

You have seen a cow playing the sax or dressed up like Marylin Monroe

You know not to shop at Bannister Mall after dark

Monday, sunny warm. Tuesday, cold and raining. Wednesday, snow

You live in the city but your neigbor has a horse and several cows

You have replaced your tires and shocks in the last three months due to pot holes

You remember Uncle Ed, Sonny Hill and Boots Williams

You are only a Chiefs fan on the weeks that they win

You drive at least two hours to ride your motorcycle

You think that "JO" on a Kansas plate means "Jerk Off"

You think that "JA" means "Jack Ass"

Those are pretty good Lee. How long did you say you lived here? Did you know that long long ago it was perfectly legal to ride your Alpina to the Crest on La Luz Trail? If you had the skills that is.

I'm not from ABQ but spent enough time there via AlliedSignal I can answer yes to most of those questions. Bad dream, must wake up......

The best description of ABQ I've heard -" It's cold, brown & dry or it's hot, brown & dry - take your pick"

We like it that way. It keeps the candy asses out.:)

Oh, and one more thing. The sky is blue, except when it's orange, red, and blue in the morning and evening. Everything else is brown.

Hey Wes, I lived in Abq for 10 years, so for most of my life. My dad lived in Four Hills and rode his Bultaco in the foothills all the time. Too bad they are closed to dirt bikes now. :(

So you guys lived in 4-Hills did ya? That there was "the" high rent district (as in butter on both side of the tortilla), at least before Tanoan. You do know what was under those 4-Hills don't ya?

And how's this for a trivia question/answer: On 22 May 1957
A 10 megaton hydrogen bomb (I think it was a Mark-17) was accidentally dropped from a bomber in an uninhabited area near Albuquerque, New Mexico. The conventional explosives detonated, creating a 12 foot deep crater 25 feet across. Truth is, the bomb did not contain the fissile core. Of course, all the anti-everything types typically neglect that fact.

Well I didn’t live in Four Hills :( but both my parents did and my grandparents still live there. I lived off of Constitution and Juan Tabo closer to Tramway. And yes, I DO know what’s under those hills...

Actually, I don't think ABQ is all that bad of a place. In fact I kinda liked it. I was asked to transfer there and it would have been nice to live on the east side of the mtn. However, my biggest fear was recently realized - Honeywell (formerly AlliedSignal) has shut the division down because they couldn't make it work. Great product, too many darn promises to too many customers - a lot of good people were left in the lurch on this one. I really didn't want to have to look for a job in or from ABQ if/when the walls came tumbling down....

Wes-That photo is killer. I was stationed in Yuma, AZ back in the 80's and I have a couple of incredible photos of the desert sunset from out at Senator's Wash.
In my travels, I have driven through ABQ numerous times, and there is nothing quite like the view of heading east, down the mountains into ABQ at night on I-40(?). Absolutely incredible. It's like coming in for a nightime landing in a jet!:)

That is true BigLou. Way back in the '60s me and my brother would be asleep on the seat of my Dad's old Studebaker pick up (the thing was pink I'm almost sure) on the way back to Albuquerque from old man Collier's ranch. Coming into the Duke City on old 66 (except it wasn't old 66 then cuz there was no Interstate) my Dad always woke us up just before we hit 9 mile hill. It was cool even back then. Dad always turned of the engine and coasted down 9 mile hill, we loved that for some reason. Probably because that "Stud" went faster in neutral.
