I have finally decided to get serious about maintaining this bike. It is a new-to-me 1997 YZ 250 with low hours on it. Even though I thought I was wasting my money, I decided to geet a set of reeds for it.

I lucked out. The local shop had a Rad valve (used) for 60.00. I decided to install it.

Surprise! The stock reed was well worn. One of the petals was burned right down the middle. The reeds did not even touch the cage.

The question is, could this cause the pilot circuit to run lean (old, burned reeds)???

Part two...should I try a leaner pilot and main with the rad valve?

p.s. I was actually quite satisfied with how this bike was running. There goes my future job with Dirt Bike!

I went down two jet sizes with my RAD valve. The pilot and the main.It ran way too rich. I also put on a PRO CIRCUIT exhaust.

Thank you! I dropped one size on the pilot last nite. Big difference! This rad valve really works.
