I'm looking at buying a 1997 YZ 250. He wants $700 for it. It's in decent shape with a few good aftermarket parts. New pipe and silencer, heavy bars, relatively new tires. he only problem is first gear won't engage. He says when you try to shift into 1st, it make a clicking or chattering noise. What could be the cause of this?. I'm waiting on a tax refund before I go look. What I'm think of is buying this bike and riding it for the rest of the summer, then over the winter, tear into the transmission and fixing first gear. This bike might be a steal. He says he can ride it just fine without 1st gear. Any help is much appreciated....
