Does anyone know if a shock from a 98 YZ 400F will fit a 98 Yz 250? I can get a good deal, but no deal is very good if it doesn't fit your purpose. On bike bandit it has the whole shock as a different part number, primarily because it has a different spring on it, but I'll be using the spring from my YZ 250 so that shouldn't be a problem, has anyone ever done it before? thanks in advance

Check out Yamaha's website. I think it's www.yamahamotors.com.
They have a parts fiche for every model. Very helpful! Just check out the shock on bothe bikes. Another way would be to call Pro-Action/Race Tech etc. Those guys usually know.

I used a '98 YZ400F rear suspension for a different purpose, but I did learn the following...

1. The swingarm linkage between the 98 and newer is different, just slighlty.
2. The overall length of the shock is different. By about 3/4 of an inch. The length difference is at the bottom, from the spring and bottom mounting/linkage hole.

Thats it. If you get the older one, and put it on a newer bike, the ride height will be slightly lower. You may be able to work around this with pre-load.

Hope this helps...
