YZ125 2002 vs RM125 2002

I'm thinking of buying a 2002 model next year. I'm now riding a YZ125 '99, but I think it hasn't got good top-end power, because I mostly ride soft terrain. Low-end and midrange is excellent. I've read many 2002 shootouts and stuff and I'm pretty sure I want an YZ or a RM. How's the powerdelivery on these 2 bikes. The most magz say something different. And is the steering of the RM really much better than the YZ? I hope somebody can help me.

I have a 2001 Rm 125 and I enjoy it very much. Just some things that I have noticed about my bike in case you were wondering. Even though there is a year difference I think they are pretty close to the same. My bike is pretty hard to get the power needed in a tight track it still can rip if you are good enough to ride it in the higher rpms, but on flat, hard packed ground, the thing is a yellow rocket with plenty of top end, if thats what your looking for. A PC pipe and silencer is supposed to even the power band out a little more. The yamaha's power band was great all over, and had some great horsepower. The yamaha is a safe bet, but if you want top end, plan to ride in high rpm's, and fast than go for the Rm. Hope this helped any

Hey in my opionion go with the yz125. I rode one also and it feels like my 2000 engine with a little less down low but a little more on top. The ergonomics were a lot beter though on the 02. The engine on the 2002 has good low mid and top. I have not ridden an 02 rm but have ridden an 01 and you need to keep it on the pipe. Under a load the rm engine suffers as were the 02 yz engine does not. The suspension from what i heard is good on both bike , but most "mags" give it to the yz. I have heard the 02 rm has very flush suspension but is very soft. In each of the mags i have read they were almost always maxed on the compression for the rm. The yz suspension that i rode was on the stock setting and was very good. A little better than my 2000. IMHO i would go with the yz, but honestly either bike is great. Just go with what color you like i think. If you can keep the rm on the pipe then they are very equal in performance. Hope this helps.

Not to flame you or anything, but if you think that the YZ125 is lacking top end power, go with a Yz250, it has very rideable power every where in the powerband. It is an execellent choice. But if your hellbent on a 125, top end power is the the RM is at!

you can change the gearing on the yz and get more top-end out of it by taking 1-2 teeth off of the rear sprocket if u want, i liked the 2002 yz125 when i rode it, i havnt rode a 2002 rm125 bbut i rode the 2001 rm125 and i liked it actually im a former suzuki rider, but i liked my yz out of any 125 ive ridden and of course my firends 2002 id go with the yz instead the engine on the rm and yz and ktm has power that the cr and kx doesnt have, suspension is better on the yz but that can be set any way you like on any bike, i awaysed like yamaha's over any bike since i had my yamaha's
