Im 19 years old 6 foot 3 150pounds. This will be my first bike and i dont have much riding experence at all. Want to ride both MX and woods. Would a yz125 be right for me or are the 125's for the younger guys? I dont want to get a bike and get bored with the power. I have riden a crf250r many times and liked the power but i kinda want a 2 stroke. I want to ride this bike for a few years before i get a new one. I wont be racing anytime soon thats for sure. And can someone please help me understand the difference in power between the 250 4 stroke and the 125 2 stroke! I know they are in the same class. Are they = in power? Is the 125t just as fast as the 250t please help me understand!!

yeh a 125 would be good for you. 125 and 250f have similair peak hp, but the 250 has much more at lower rpm, and therefore has much more low end torque. Learning to ride on a 125 will make you a much better rider in the long run as you will learn to keep the bike in its powerband.

I am 49 yo, 5'10", and 240 lbs., and ride 95% in the woods. I just purchased my 3rd YZ125 in 3 1/2 years, and love them!
It will take some skills to master the 125 that you will retain forever & be able to apply on ANY bike you ride in the future. Buy as new of a bike as you can afford; there are left over (new) 2006's to be had in the $3,500 range.
Ride it stock, after first setting the suspension sag. Learn to maintain it well, then start by changing the gearing, (1 or 2 t larger rear,) adding a flywheel weight, and then finally changing the tires. Whatever you do, only make one change at a time, ride & get use to the bike after each change. There are more things you can do when you decide what you want the bike to do better.

Good luck, & have fun! Make your choice and don't look back!

Well i can tell you that once i get used to the bike i am going to want power. Is the 125 have enough power for a 19 year old that wants to fly around the track?

yz 125

I just bought yz125 and YZ250F, I bought the 125 for my 14yr old son and the 250F for me. Don't underestimate the 125 I weigh 225 and it carries my f...a..... around just fine. I let my son try the 250F for the first time this weekend. He thought it was easier to ride but the 125 is more fun. I tend to agree. However at 54, I don't mind relaxing more. If I was 19 I'd be buying a two stroke and let er rip. I'm fortunate that my son let's me borrow his bike for a few minites once in a while.
