Help I have a 2001 yz250 tranny locked up fathers day. I had all the parts inspected and needed to replace right shift fork, shift drum, two bearings and had all the dogs undercut 7 degrees by a well known local motorcycle machinist. The problem I am having is the bike does not stay in 5th gear.I have had the bike to the local tracks three times since and all the other gears are perfect(the bike never hits another neutral unless you deliberately put it in neutral). Has anyone out there had this problem? Is there a way to measure the clearances in the tranny upon reassembly to make sure the fork that shifts 5th is putting it all the way into 5th?

looking over the manual it shows that the right shift fork controls 5th and 3ed gear. it also says that if you replace a shift fork, you also need to replace the two gears beside it. this could be your problom

Thanks, I started to take the bike apart last night and am going to reinspect every part and probably order the gears you mentioned.
