I started my yz426f after 4 months of no riding. it wouldnt start so i pulled the spark plug and it had some oil substance on it. i cleaned it with carb cleaner and put it back in. i started the bike and it ran rough idle and backfired alot any idea's?

If it was sitting for that long the chances are good the pilot jet is plugged. It's time for a new plug and a carb cleaning.

Yeah clean the carb for sure. The 426 did not have a remote hot start from the factory, so the red plunger is the hotstart on that carb. Be sure you remove it, clean it and grease it lightly before reinstalling. They get stuck open if you dont clean them frequently and cause problems like you mentioned.

Also check the oil. If you have not in a while, be sure to inspect the oil filter. If there is a lot of particals in the oil, it can be causing problems with the trigger coil. Had a CRF450 with that problem this week - would not run past 1/4 throttle without backfiring and not reving up.
