HEY TZRACER,
I HAD A 96 YZ WITH A LONG ROD KIT IN IT . THEY USED TO BE AVAILABLE DIRECTLY THROUGH YMUS (YAMAHA USA). IF YOU HAVEN'T TRIED THEM ALREADY, THEN YOU MIGHT WANT TO GO TO THE YAMAHA HOME PAGE AND LOOK AT THE YMUS AFTERMARKET PARTS SECTION. IF YOU CAN'T FIND A PHONE NUMBER THERE THEN YOU'LL HAVE TO ASK YOUR DEALER. KEEP TRYING THOUGH, IT'S WORTH THE TROUBLE--THERE IS NO AMOUNT OF PORTING, PIPES, INTAKES OR ANYTHING ELSE AFTERMARKET THAT WILL GIVE YOU THE MEAT THAT THE LR KIT WILL. GOOD LUCK--GAWOODSRIDER

Eric, your book talked a bit about this mod. How do you feel about it at this point? Is it worthwhile?

From what I remeber the long rod kit made for a much broader power distribution. Didn't add any hp just spread out the power band substantially. If your an off-roader I would say its an excellent choice. Also if you want a smoother transition of power its a plus as well.
