Pull the compression release and hold the throttle wide open and kick it through about 8 to 10 times. Then release the throttle and try to start it. Bring it up on compression and then pull the compression release so the piston goes a little past compression and then give it a good healthy kick. Give it either no throttle or only about an 1/8 to a 1/4 throttle. On those early XR's there is a pick-up coil in the right side case next to the crankshaft. Over time these coils get hot and the insulation cracks. If you loose spark when the bike is hot, that coil would be the first thing to check. Just my $ .02 [/QUOTE]
