Compression on a Johnson 8 h.p. outboard?

I may be buying a used 1997 Johnson 8 h.p. outboard in the next couple of days. I know that this is really off topic, but would anyone know what the compression should be? Also is it like checking the compression on a dirtbike; engine warm, kill switch pressed, throttle wide open, turned over 4 or 5 times??:think

johnson & evenrude&omc are all the same comp. that just went OUT OF BUSINESS!!! parts are now very hard to find & people that have them are charging $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ for them?are you sure you want to do this?:think

Good information. I may have to rethink my purchase. I would imagine no matter what brand of engine it is, an 8 h.p. motor should make about the same compression.:think
