I think it depends on the tire & maybe on your weight/ riding conditions

I use 12 in front & 10 in back for muddy conditions and 11 in back & 12-13 in front for normal/ dry condtions

i use 14 in both tyres. The tyres are Michelin MS2. If the going gets really sticky, i pump the back up to maybe 16. This is the opposite of what most people tend to do i think.

I use 15 psi on all my bikes for trail riding. I've gotten maybe two pinch flats in 15 or so years of riding. Less pressure makes it feel "squishy".
