Let me start out by saying that I have never had a street legal bike but I am looking into buying one so I really don't know what it should cost.

Those of you that have street legal bikes how do you insure your bike for riding on the street during and between trails? I got a quote for $590 / year and almost fell off my chair. The bike's only a 95 KTM 440. Is this right or do they just not understand the idea of a dual sport bike?

The insurance company told me that that is a reasonable rate for such a large displacement bike. It kind of makes me wonder what these 800+ bikes are paying for insurance.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Kirk

Check with Geico.

My XR650R only cost me about $80 for a year for liability.

Much cheaper than Progressive (which I had last year) or any brick adn mortar shops.

I recently got my dual sport insurance for my kdx220 from progressive. We didnt go with geico because we have friends who had very bad experiences and they wouldnt give me an accurate quote because of my age (im 17) without an adult present. A friend of ours has progressive for his 13 bikes (he owns a bike shop) and he absolutly loves them, no problems at all.

With progressive i was able to get insurance (very minimum) for $8 a month. I decided to get some other options just in case. ie, comprehensive, collison. Im paying $24 a month which is resonable for me too pay and much cheaper than a car.

I needed insurance because the kdx is my main source of transportation too work/school and back. Untill i can afford another bike im not going to be doing much trail riding. :(

I needed to get insurance on my CR250 because I'm making it street legal to be able to run enduro's. Have had insurance through State Farm for 20 years and they weren't interested in writing the policy at all. Called progressive and they quoted $75 but that was the minimum they could charge for a policy in michigan so he checked to see how much coverage he could get me for that $75/yr. I have a 250 deductible comp/collision/theft/$1000 medical - full coverage for $75/yr. That's on an '04 CR250 made street legal.

I want to put the whole dualsport package on my rm but I heard Washington is one of the toughest states to get a dual-sport registration. Is this true? If it is what do I need?

Kirk

tkoden.

I pay $85.00 every 6 months for my dualsported CRF450 through State Farm. Not much more than that for my BMW RT1100. Although I'm an old fart with a good driving record. :nener:

Don't you guys in Michigan get hit with the stupid Michigan Catastrophic coverage premium? Nationwide just nailed me on this for $158 plus the rest of my policy.

I pay $175'ish per year for my sv650. I have pretty high limits and am convered for everything but collision. How old are ya? That can make a pretty big difference.

BTW I have always heard that 600cc is when they start considering the bike "large displacement"

Yeah, my policies cost $75 per bike, but my bill is over $200 per. :yell:
