http://www.motocrossactionmag.com/readnews.asp?id=679  check this article out from MXA.  If it were April I'd figure it as an April fools joke.

Article from MXA below.

Although there won't be an official press conference until press day for the Anaheim Supercross, MXA has learned that Jeremy McGrath, the greatest Supercross rider of all-time, will not start the 2003 season. At the moment, Team McGrath is calling all of their sponsors and telling them the news. MXA talked to team manager Larry Brooks on Monday afternoon and he confirmed the story.

This Fall Jeremy signed a four-year deal with KTM, for a reported $750,000 a year. Unfortunately, Jeremy suffered a dislocated hip during testing when his KTM suffered from fuel exhaustion (caused by a clogged gas cap vent). Jeremy lost valuable testing time when he recuperated from his hip injury and decided to race the European Supercross rounds to speed up testing. McGrath won one round at the Italian Supercross, but suffered a concussion the second day. He was sidelined for a short time, but returned to Europe to race the two rounds of the World Supercross series. Jeremy rode well (winning a heat race in Switzerland), but didn't log any podium finishes.

Upon returning to the States Jeremy took a week to evaluate his performances and has now decided to call it quits.

Although the retirement of Jeremy McGrath will not be official until the day before the Anaheim Supercross--MXA guarantees that this is, in fact, fact
