FC22, don't let the hills & trickier sections worry you. When I first started out a couple years ago I didn't have the skills or stamina to do much on the real MTB trails either. We rode the Centenial trail for the first few weeks then added some of the singletrack trails that paralled the paved trail down by Walk in The Wild Zoo. We then started hitting Beacon Hill. Beacon has some good easy stuff and you can always walk up the tougher hills. In fact, many of the hills I do now I couldn't get half way up when I first started and several of the downhills I didn't dare ride down until I figured out how to get my butt back over the reartire. With practice and increasing fitness, you figure out how to make it up more & more of the hills and how to ride the more challenging sections. When Karl's bro first rode with us at Beacon, he was frustrated because he couldn't make it up the hills that we could. After a few times out though, he figured out the lines & the technique to master the hills. The beauty of the MTB is the ease that you can pick it up & carry it if the section is just too much for you to ride. No way I can do that with my CR!!! That is also what is nice about Beacon. There are some really extreme sections but there are also some really nice fun & easy sections. You do have to make it up a couple hills to get to the good rolly singletrack but they aren't that tough and they warm you up so you can enjoy the easy stuff.
