Howdy all. I'm an older street rider that's interested in dirt riding. I'm looking for advice on what size and type bikes to consider. Here's my info: 1) your physical size: 5'10", 200lbs. 2) How physical / aggressive are you ? Average. Exercise daily, but I'm not a fitness nut. I'm in my late 30s. 3) what do you plan to ride- MX/SX tracks, woods, fields with friends or ????? Most likely woods, some tracks with friends. 4) Do you have any riding experience? 10+ years on streetbikes. In my youth I road mountain bikes. 5) Do you think you will race ? I might consider doing a hare scramble somewhere along the way, but just for fun. 6) Are you mechanically inclined and will you be doing your own bike work? Yes. I maintain my streetbikes today. No real engine work, but I have done just about everything else. 7) Do YOU have a preferance to a brand/ motor choice (2 or 4 stroke)? I've never been on a 2 stroke, all my street bikes are 4 strokes. I don't have a strong brand preference (though I'm superstitious about Yamahas...), though I do have a Honda streetbike. 8) Do you have a dealer close by your home that you might use and what brand(s) does he carry? I'm not really looking to buy new at this point. There are dealers of all major brands close for parts/service. 9) How much ($) do you plan to spend on a bike? I started looking with around $1000.00 in mind for something mid-late 90s, but I could spend more if it made sense for the right bike. 10) Do you live in California? No. 11) Your age? 38 12) anything else that you think would help form an opinion. Can't think of anything.
