I know you are running different gearing than stock. Is it by any chance including a 14T front sprocket? If it is, is there a certain amount of HP gains that need to be done first to pull it properly? I have stock porting, boyesen reeds, RB carb, FMFKG 30/TC II/ new Weisco Piston. Is that eoungh or should I stick to a 13T?? I went to a 12/47 and I've decicded that it's too low so I'm going back to 13/47 but when the chain/sprockets wear out I might do a 14/50 or soething like that. Looking for ideas THAT WORK!
Thanks.

beem there!

I did thge same thing as you wanted to!
first 13/50 to slow. climb hills in 3rd dropping to 2nd rarely ever needing 1st.
nexted : 14/50 pulls like a rapped ape & very fast! but when climbing now second to 1st most of the time.

You guys must ride fast! My bike came with spare sprockets but have never changed the 13/49 combination that was installed. For east coast trail riding I still have to lug first gear slightly when climbing over logs, deep ruts, killer mud, etc.

Yes, you do have to have an increase in HP to pull it properly.

I spoke with Sage about this very thing recently. He's increased the compression to over 200 psi. by milling the head and cylinder top. This provides the extra pull / torque / HP to run the 14/50 comb.

If you do the math, it would be like running a 13/46.5 setup if you could.

Hope this helps.

I've got 14-49, almost 40 hp and race AA class. I built a 00 200 for a friend thats a much slower rider and we ended up with 13-46 to calm down the wheel spin.
