1) your physical size (both height and weight are important)- 5'6'' 120

2) How physical / aggressive are you? work out 5 yimes a week somewhat aggressive

3) what do you plan to ride- some trails but mostly mx/sx

4) Do you have any riding experience? 4 years

5)Do you think you will race? yes

6) Are you mechanically inclined and will you be doing your own bike work? yes mechanically inclined and some of my own work

7) Do YOU have a preferance to a brand/ motor choice (2 or 4 stroke)? yz 250 or any 450

8) Do you have a dealer close by your home that you might use and what brand(s) does he carry?

9) How much do you plan to spend on a bike? $7000

I'm your size and I feel my '06 yz 250 has plenty of power I can't see wanting anymore I can barely tap into what the 250 is offering right now. It wheelie's with me on it like i'm not even on the bike. I haven't had a bike bigger than 125 for a good while this 250 totally reminds me of like old school open class bikes a 450 would only hurt me.

if your going to race you should definately get a 450. A 250 2 stroke may "feel" faster because of the peaky powerband, but in reality any one of the 450s are faster because of the smoother, more tractable power they produce

as for what 450 to get....the honda crf450 is a solid choice in any year, but if you're going to get an '06 the yamaha is an even better choice

Undoubtedly true, but how much faster?

Do you think RC, Bubba and Chad would drop any in the standings if they were on 2T's?

McGrath and Mike Brown have done lright this year when they've been on 2Ts.

This is the propaganda the magazines are teaching you. Unless you are a Pro you will never ride a 250 or 450 to their limit. In other words, no matter what you are on you are only going to be able to go as fast as your ability allows and that won't be anywhere near what the bike is capable of doing.

Stop reading the magazines.

The 450 is easier to ride fast and less tiring. The 250 2t feels lighter and has the fun factor but makes you tired faster. If you plan to race, get the 450.
