I have ridden 250cc for the last 2 yers or so. I tried a 125 a few weeks ago for the first time since i sold mine. It was a '02 cr125. I found it pretty hard since it doesnt pull at all under top rpm, like on and off. I guiss its just that im used to the 250 torque when i can go into a corner on idle and then just open the throttle and away it goes even if in wrong gear just a little bit slower. On the 125 i had to shift down and rew or it would take ages to get any speed. I think its just a matter of getting used to.

However i have had thoughs on buying a yz250f. I havent ridden the bike but what i hope is that it have the same or more torque than my 250, sure not as powerful on the top. For you who have ridden it how does it compare to a 250 2-stroke?

It sounds like what you are after-it wont however have as much torque as a 250 2 stroke. It will have alot more than a 02Cr125.

I have ridden a few '01 YZ250F's they are not on the same level powerwise compared to a 250. When compared to a 125 depending on the bike has about the same amount of bottom end but with alot more torque. The F hits harder and pulls much longer on top compared to my 125 but then again it also rev's out 2,500 rpm higher. It won't smoke a 125 but there is a slight power advantage and it can hang with 250 two strokes but as soon as they get on the gas they'll smoke the F. The F also is ridden more like a 125 you can't get real lazy on it and expect it to do what a 250 would. So when compared to a 125 is has a slight advantage but compared to a 250 then it has the advantage but thats like comparing apples to oranges. Think of the 250F as a very powerful slightly heavier 125 4 stroke mx'er.

WELL SAID - almost like Yamaha planned it that way.

They WERE produced to run in the 125 class. Aint no way they are going to run with the 250 smoker - that would take a CRF450/YZF450...

I've never regretted my YZ250F purchase for a minute. It has all the fun of a 125, and great low end response. The best of both worlds. I can literally do twice as many fast laps on this bike as I can on a 250 2-stroke. The only time I miss my older, faster bikes is when I need to clear a big jump right out of a turn. The 250F just doesn't have the hard hit of a 250 2-stroke or big 4-stroke that my 200 lb. weight requires :(. It CAN clear them, but you have to rev the guts out of it like a 125. I'm getting older and lazier so I want something more effortless. I'm planning to keep the 250F and add a 450F or CRF this Fall. I'll use the 450 for serious motocross, and the 250F for just about everything else (including trail riding). If I were 175 lbs. or less, I think the 250F would work well for everything.
