Does anyone know if you have to take the cams out to do a piston swap.
Can you just remove the cam gears and chain, pull the head, then the jug.

What’s involved in changing the piston and rings.

Thanks

The cams have to be removed to pull the cam chain and the top end.

The Yamaha manual has a very complete explanation of the procedure.

Yes, I guess the piston is underneath the cams and cam chain. ;) This would make their removal a necessary procedure. Just get those cam dots and links between correct (while you have it TDC) and it should start up again with no problems. Torque those bolts correctly!
