Ive ridden many brands and models of bikes. For woods riding, a 125 MX bike ranks at the very bottom of the list. I cant think of a bike that performs worse on the trail. 125s make most of their power at very high rpms (top end) and they have almost non existent low end power, which is ok zipping around a track, but not ok when a big, nasty, steep hill sneaks up on you. When you need that low end power, it will bog down on you. I have seen only very skilled riders make a 125 work on trails. In addition to the lack of low end power, the 125, like any MX bike, is geared for tracks, which is traditionally too high in first and too closely spaced gearing. You are much better off buying a bike designed for trail riding, such as a KDX, or KTM EXC, or many others. The CRF250X you mentioned would work ok, but you will spend alot of time and money on maintenance compared to other bikes.
