Hey Guys I need Your Help,

I'm buying a dirtbike and im not sure whether to get and 125 or 250 2 stroke! I have ridden 85 and 250 2stroke.... I'm 5 foot 10 and weigh145 pounds.

I will be riding trails and mx tracks. 250 has a lot of power and from what ive heard so does a 125. i want to be fast but also have control, and have fun. i really have no idea and i need some help. I'm thinking yamaha, suzuki, or kawasaki. i need all of your opinions please thankyou so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am favoring a 125 just cause i think i will have more control.. but im not sure thanks guys!!!

Well, a 250 2-stroke will have about twice the power of a 125 2-stroke.....
If you are comparing a 250 4-stroke to a 125 2-stroke I would go with the 250.

As for having control, going to 250 doesn't change the control you have. Not having the power to mis-use might make your lack of control easier to deal with on a 125. On the other hand, having power to spare with the 250 might get you out of trouble. Opening the throttle a little wider is easier than shifting down when climbing a hill.

You say you have ridden an 85 and a 250.... so a 125 would be about in the middle! How much riding did you do on the 250?

I have riden a number of different Yamahas, 2 and 4 stroke, "TT" and "YZ". I am not that good of a rider and I certainly don't race but I do tend to push my abilities, some times a bit too far. I find that the YZ suspension is a lot more forgiving of my mistakes. Let's just say that I managed to make it over some obstacles that I really didn't want to go over in the first place.....

My bike is a YZ-125. It and I have an understanding, I treat it well and it has been treating me well. It has only thrown me off once and that was all my fault. My son has a YZ-250. My mistake when I rode that bike was that I treated it like my 125. It definately has the power to get me in over my head much more quickly than my 125 does. I think that once I train my right hand to deal with throttle settings between WOT and Idle I would do a lot better on that bike.

I have ridden a Suzuki exactly once, I think it is a 225 2-stroke. It was a friend's bike, and I can't keep up with him when he is riding it. But that bike and I just don't get along. I don't know what it is but I would be riding along thinking things were just fine and suddenly WHAM! Thank god it was a soft sandy trail! I don't know if it was the rake of the forks, the wheel base, where I positioned my weight, or what, but that bike dumped me three times on a trail I had ridden a bunch of times before.

i would go with a 250. It is always good to have a reserve of power. 125s are really light too though so it will feel more nimble on trails and stuff but a good 250 is light enough to throw around IMO.

you can also get a ktm 200 kinda in between and made for trails

i would get either a 250 or a 200

I would go for a 250 4-stroke, as hard as you try to find a reason to buy a 2-stroke, you just can't. believe me, I wanted one as well and ended up with my CRF250X, after riding a friends YZ125 I have no regrets AT ALL!
Only thing is that the 2-strokes feel a little thinner and more nimble.
I 6 foot and 155pounds so similar to you, I feel much better riding a 125 or a 250 thumper then a 250 2T/450thumper MX.

It all depends, if you have much experience and you feel that the power of the bigger bikes won't make you slower and will be used well, go for it. If you have a chance to ride some 4 strokes as well and maybe a 125, that's the best, buying after riding one.

I know that other then maybe in straights and sand I feel much better and much more in control on a 250 thumper then a 450 thumper. And I'm probably faster on the smaller bike as well.

250 and 450 Thumpers are no longer classified as 2t`s

The person asked for 125-250 2T`s..Thumpers are not classified as 2t`s (AMA rule # 125-buried-money,app D)There are 2 reasons for buying a 2t. Cost-Maintanence Cost-Rideability-Fun Factor-Cost-Reliability-Cost-Power to weight ratio-Cost-Maintanence cost-Fun Factor-Ease of Maintanence-Cost-Fun Factor and Money...

I just sold my 1995 kx250 to a co worker because I got a new one. He has never ridden a dirtbike before. He said it was a handful at first but after a few weekends of riding he is on top of his game now and can handle it just fine. His friend has a newer kx125, he rode the 125 last weekend and when he came into work he told me how glad he was to have a 250 over a 125. A 125 is like an 85 but faster. A 250 has allot of bottom end and is very fast. The 250 is a very universal bike, track or trails. The two strokes are very easy to find for great prices right now. They are very low in cost to maintain and easy to work on. I vote 250.

Ktm 200

Still vote for the KTM 200-best of both worlds, great powerful smooth motor and the low-weight handling of a snappy 125,plus will not be phased out (ala Honda) can`t beat that......

Cr125r Is Definitly What You Need To Have Fun And Definitly Has The Power To Keep Up With The 250 4 Strokas If I Was Yopu I Would Stay With Two Strokes And Get A Honda Cr125r Or A Cr250r Definitly The Best Brand Of Dirt Bike

I have a 125 YZ and that is all the bike I need or want. I am 180lbs 5'-10". I have ridden a friend CR 250 and :yikes: that thing is a slingshot jet rocket blaster from he!! I think it is too fast, but that me my abilitys are limited.

So if you have limited experence maybe think more toward the 125 or as stated before a 250f.

I think 125's are great starter bikes. If you want to race or whatever you want to do you should have to build your skill quite a bit. I mean I dont think there is anything on 125 that you cant do on a 2stroke unless you are a very good rider.

I was thinking the same thing. I wanted a kx250f because my buddy had one and I liked it but I have decided to get a cr125. There is nothing that some one of my skill level cant do on that bike. Its mostly rider rather than bike.

I had the same question a few days ago but I have recently decided to go with the 250. Just for the fact that I would rather be over powered then under powerd. Although the 125 can be gotten a little cheaper and they are cheaper to work on.

I have a 07 CR125 and I ride it in trail and its awsome, its real quick too, it keeps up with my buddies Wr250f trail bike. The 125 is enough to scare the **** out of me but not enough to kill me. Its a great bike and it's very light! Probly one of the best attributes of the 125. Easy to control and at a fast pace in 1st and 2nd gear for most snowmobile trails in Ontario.
