Have Dallas riders noticed how trashed "175" has become. This is one of the few FREE riding areas I know of in D/FW area. I ride with about 7-10 friends all over the D/FW area and we are all willing to organize some type of clean-up for the parking area. We are afraid that if this dumping continues the park will get closed by the City of Dallas. Anyone interested??:uh:

Welcome aboard Easter!

The place is officially called "Crawford Park" and it is City of Dallas land. Yes, it needs a major clean up.

When are you thinking about doing this?

OK - what is the deal? :think

I see that at the time of this writing that 54 folks have looked at this thread and I am the only one to offer assistance in cleaning up a riding area?

Perhaps the original message wasn't clear enough so allow me to restate...

There is some public land set aside by the City of Dallas for riding Motorcycles and ***'s called Crawford Park. The park is located off of Highway 175 just east of Buckner in southeast Dallas near Balch Springs.

This place is a mess. There is litter everywhere and it needs a clean up in a bad way. I am afraid that if we don't do something we may lose this free riding area.

FWIW - Easter and I did see a woman walking about the area with a clipboard taking notes. She might be a greenie or perhaps a bird watcher - who knows? What I do know is that she saw the same garbage I did and guess who will get blamed for bringing it in and leaving it? The motorcycle and *** riders. :ugg:

Does anyone give a rat's arse about this place or it is just me?

Who wants to help clean this place up?

Take it easy, Jeff...there's a chance that 1 or 2 of those 54 people don't live in the Dallas area.

I would suggest setting a date and time...I'd bet you would get some help.

True, but I ain't about to let a thread as important as this just slide to the next page when I know folks have been looking at it (and odds are that some are even in the Dallas area).

Hey Jeff -

I'd come help you out, but I'm located several hundred miles north east of you, so, sorry, I won't be able to attend.

But, on a more positive note, you may want to consider beating the bush at your local dealerships. See if you can hang flyers there and give some contact info on the flyer. Set a date for the clean up, with specific times. You might also be able to get some free goodies from the dealerships to raffle off to help encourage more people to attend.

Just a thought and good luck!

You might also set something up with a local dump to get a discount or even a free dump pass (if you have not already done so). Around here the dump has certain days that they will let you bring in stuff for free. Also getting transportation set up move the stuff to the dump such as a dump truck or on of those big dumpsters that they will come a haul away would be good too.

As stated above, I would definately push for some of the local bike shops to let you put fliers in there shops or pay for some of it and get involved. I like the donating stuff idea too. If there is no place to ride they will not sell as many bikes and I would make them aware of it. You may even get one of them to spring to Hot dogs and sodas to help get people out there. If you make it seem like a party poeple would more than likely show up. I would definaly put a plan together and then pitch it to the bike shops. I think you'd be better able to get them involved if it was easy for them and they saw that it would be organised. Also another selling point would be the potental customers that would be there. They could put up a clean up sponsered by " insert dealer here" banner.

Good luck, sometimes getting poeple to just donate time is like pulling teeth. I certainly hope that you get things going. I would sure hate to see a good area closed because some cursader decided that the city needs to run off the loud dirtbikers and used other poeples dumping as a excuse to do it.

when I know folks have been looking at it (and odds are that some are even in the Dallas area).

probably very few of the 54 are from your area, I'm halfway across the country. I go out and help with our trails ( cleanup) several times per year. I take my trucks, trailers, and my entire crew. we go out and cleanup the crap that people toss out without a second thought. I get sooo ticked when I go a week later and it's trashed again. I have even gone so far as to buy and set out trash cans only to have them stolen.
too many prople don't see past the end of their nose. no foresight as to the ramifications of thier actions, this is , I believe, the main problem with society in general. selp centerdness. it is too inconvenient to properly dispose of thier oun garbage. OOOOOHHHHHH, I had better stop before I get even more worked up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Thanks for all of the input guys.

We need to make a target date and get some dealerships/clubs involved. Some press would not hurt either.

Stay tuned to this thread for important updates:D

What is this "Crawford Park" of which you speak? I know of no such place. Fill me in on some details. The RRDR might be willing to help, might give it a shot....

Yes, Jeff, I figured that out earlier. What I wanna know is: What kinda of riding is it? Is it any good? How big is it? Things of this nature...

The riding is great for a FREE area! How many places do you know of that are free and legal to ride? Not many. The park is good for all levels of riding skills. Trailz, woodz, track, jumpz, fun-what else do ya need? The park is on the smaller side(maybe 1 sq mile) so I won't encourage a long trip to ride-but for local Dallas guys its close, free, and fun.
The place has become a dump-"Litter"aly! The trash is concentrated in the parking area and not so much in the trails. The last two weekends in January I would like us all to ride and then fill up our trucks with trashbags. I am going to investigate the great ideas from Danman as well.

Sorry about that. I wasn't trying to be a smarty - I just didn't know if you had taken the time to read through all of the posts on this thread.

January is not good for me at all. I have a race the weekend of the 13th and the weekend of the 26th. I am pretty sure that my wife would like to see me and the kids atleast ONE weekend this month!

How about February?

Not trying to be a smarty pants myself, but Jeff, what is more important, racing, or cleaning up this free riding area and possibly getting the sport some good press? If people have been out there looking at the place (who knows who they are?), it might be closer to getting shut down than you think.

This is why greenies win. We go riding and they go to work shutting places down.

Just some food for thought, no offence intended or implied.

I am all for cleaning this place up. But I am also all for racing in the TORO series of which I have so far invested a considerable amount of time and money. I have already used my "drop" race for the series, so it is important that I race the last 3 races.

I also think that a little more planning and promotion can go along way to the overall success of this endeavor. If we rush around and are only mildy successful, then what has truly been gained?

On the otherhand, if we get together and organize and promote the event I think we can come out with better results and maybe even garner a chance at some goodwill publicity.
