Hi,I bought a 1986 yz125 recently. This bike is in like new shape, and runs good. Does anybody know how the power is on the 86 compared to the newer models, and what major changes have been made. Has anybody had an 86 yz125 that could share their opinion about the bike. Thnx

i had a 1980 yz 125 and i went to an 04 kx 125....my kx has ALOT more power and mostly a broader powerband....and my kx seems to last alot longer .. i went threw like 3 or 4 pistons a year on my yz.
it was a fun bike i wish i could of kept it but i needed the money!

my bike is fine with the pistons and rings, just wondering if im lacking power for the year and what the problem could be, because i rode a friends 97 rm125 and it felt alot snappier and rode with a light wheel the whole ride. Do u think this is just the year difference and my bike could be worn out, or do u think upgrade like reeds and exaust will do the trick? (I have a fresh top end, and new clutch)

Good idea,

I have an 86 Cr250 which has a lot more bottom end than most new 250's, although the newies will out run me in the end. The fact is though Yamaha really didn't have it togethter back in the eighties and Honda were kings of the dirt world.
