My friend has a 1990 yamaha DT200, all of the electric/electronic components have been stripped of to make it a dirt bike use only. It is not producing full power and we are wondering why. What mix of fuel oil do we have to put in the tank since he already screwed up the present ratio. Any info on this bike you guys want to give out would be cool.

Thanks

Has it had the oil injector pulled off to run premix? Stock they were oil injected, not mixed.

On the power, once you get the injectio/premix situation answered, start by going over the fuel system, compression, spark etc, and see what you find. An engine needs air/fuel mix in the correct proportion, adequate compression, a strong enough spark to ignite the mix, that spark needs to ocur at the correct moment, and the engine needs to be mechanically sound, with no air leaks or other mechanical troubles that will interfere with these. When these are not present or are not in correct amounts, you have issues with poor running.

I have no clue. I am guessing there is a oil pump for the injection ? Where is it supposed to be on the bike?

Thanks man

I can't remember how the setup is on that bike. I've only been around one, and that was a while ago, and I didn't pay much attention to the injection setup, if it still had it even.

There should be a pump though, normally operated through a gear or belt drive of some kind, that pumps oil to lube the engine. It may mix the oil with the gas at the carb, or it may inject it into the engine to the bearings directly. I can't find a parts diagram to help you either, as that model wasn't sold in the US, and the only places I know of for parts diagrams are US based, and don't list the DT 200 as it wasn't sold there.

dt200

I have a 1990 DT200 that has been stripped and runs on mixed fuel.

The fuel mix is 25:1 (2 stroke oil)

hope that helps :

powervalve

the dt 200 has a electric operated powervalve, without a battery or the wiring it won't move. you will only have top end or bottom end power, depending if it's open or closed. you can manually position it to where you like. it was once suggested to me to position it half open to get good mid range power. warren
