Are they really as good as people say? I found one that runs good. Needs some work........but I thought about buying and restoring it. Is it worth it?

I have had a 94 CR for the past 6 years. I have owned several other bikes including CRF450, WR400, RM250, CRF250X and tried out many others too but the 92 - 96 CRs are spot on for the things I am doing. I love them for the eastern woods. I had a 93 CR for a couple of years and I would prefer it over the 94 but the differences arn't enough to consider trading. A freind of mine has had a 95 for the past 8 years now and he won't be trading up anytime soon either. I don't feel the technology has come so far from this honda to warant getting a newer bike. If I did I would have to consider the newer RMs or YZ. Mostly because the power is similar to what my CRs put out and the frame geometry is very close also. The upgrade would only be buying me new suspension. Most guys these days send their suspension out any way so starting with an older bike and getting the suspension done and the jetting right should do you just fine. These bikes arn't quite as light as the newer bikes but you could spend some of the money you are saving on things to upgrade an lighten it up if you want... like aluminum subframes and upgrading the wheels & hubs.
The other advantage to the CR line up is that many of the parts are interchangable for years 92 to about 2001. I bought an E-line light kit for mine knowing that if I changed up to an 01 CR I could just bolt it right on. Oh and ****! It is easy to find parts used and new for these bikes.
I say go for it.

I have a stock 93 CR 250 and a 2000 CR 250 with a pro circut pipe. The pipe makes a huge difference but the 93 runs great. I put a new motor in it a few months ago and i actually like it better for woods riding and hill climbing. It seems to have more lug to it. If it wasn't for needing the money and loving the up top of the 2000 I wouldn't be selling the 93.
