I have been extemely happy with mine. Strong low to mid engine and with good suspension and handling. I haven't had any problems with mine. If it looks like its in good condition I think you will like it.

I think the engine was the funnest engine I have ever ridden with. I liked the rest of the bike as well. I wish I still had it.

No problems. However I like the suspension better after swapping out the fork springs.

I have a '97 (same except for the carb) , and have had friends with many KX's. Bike of the year in '98 by Dirt Bike magazine. These bikes were state of the art ( at the time) and while you will hear of people that had many problems as they age, I have witnessed 15 or so last very, very well.

Very good bike. I had a 98 and loved it. Now I have an 02' It's probably a $1200/$1400 bike if in good shape. Make sure you check the swing arm bearings. For some reason in 98, the bearings were junk.

I just recently traded a 98' WR400F for a 98' KX250 and I'm glad I did. I haven't had the bike long but I really like it. It has a ton of power especially low end which I really like because I ride all woods. Also the bike handles great, but then again I'm coming off of a heavy bulky 4 stroke. I lowered the fork oil down to 4 inches, from the top, to soften up the forks and it really works great now. It's a great bike.
