Any suggestions for a 250 2 stroke case splitter tool and a place to buy it, besides the $130 one from motion-pro. The common steering wheel pullers available at Sears, Harbor Freight, etc don't seem wide enough. Thanks.

I thought Butcher Boys was a meat market business! Glad I can do all of my motor work myself. Screwdrivers on aluminum cases, that’s the reason they make special tools for jobs that require them. It’s also the reason i’m so busy at my shop and don’t have the time to ride my bikes!
You could try www.snapon.com or www.mactools.com and see what they have to offer. While neither of these company’s will be the cheapest, they do offer an extended array of specialty tools for all types of jobs.

You should post the name of the shop so everyone can be sure and AVOID it. :silly:

you can make a bike specific puller adapter for one of those auto steering wheel puller rather easily. 1/4 inch plate steel atleast as big as your magneto cover gasket, using your gasket mark and drill the holes and then drill 1 big hole in the center where the crank shaft is. using long 6mm bolts sandwich the "steering wheel" puller resting on the crank with the plate bolted to your cover mounts. Make sure everything is straight ,even and centered so when you tighten the puller screw it pushes on your plate nicely. Snug up , light tap with a rubber mallet on the countershaft, snug ,tap snug, tap etc.

If you plan on keeping your bike forever or working on a lot of bikes that have the same magneto cover , it is not a bad thing to have for the cost and effort to make .

I made one for my bike much the same way that jmics said. Worked Pissa, and I didn't have to use any screwdrivers to pry it apart

I didn't want to shell out $130 either. I ended up getting a puller from Harbor Freight for $30 bucks. It is kinda similar to a steering wheel puller but it has a wider spread. It didn't come with long metric bolts so I cut the threads off of some long bolts and threaded them with a metric die.

What do people use to split the newer (01-04) RM125 cases with? I noticed the bolt holes are in a '"Y" pattern instead of directly across from each other.

The tool from Motion Pro is adjustable. The bolts can be anywhere.

I use big metal hammers and tire irons . No use dinking aroung with baby screwdrivers.

Seriously, for just a moment. Dont pry things. The outcome is usually bad. I bought a puller from Harbour Freight. It is extremely poor quality. Nothing like Snap-on would sell, but it is enough quality to pull the cases apart without damage. I dont remember paying over 10.00 for it.
