2000 - 2002 Yz250

I was interested in getting a YZ250 around the 2000 - 2002 year range.Can anyone give me firsthand info about these bikes,Thanks.

I rode my old roommates 02 yz250 and it was smokin' fast. It beat my 03 rm250. Also, yz is generally a very reliable brand. THey make a very quick 2-stroke, I don't know about the handling because I just rode it at the dunes.

I had a 2000 model YZ and hated it, motor was all mid and hit like a ton of bricks when you least expected it. Don't know about the other years or if they fixed it.

02 was a great bike. that bike and the years surrounding it -- the YZ 250 won a lot of 250 shootouts as best overall 250. I think it lost one year (03 or 04) to the RM because the RM "copied" the motor but kept RM turning abilities. The motor is great -- linear and powerful. Rode mine from 02-06. Sold it for an 06. Reliability/build quality is very good on this bike.

the kx won the 05 shootout this year ( yes!!!) also i have a friend who owns a 00' yz 250 and it was fast! he could get through anything on that bike, whoops, straights, jumps, berms, anything!
