biggest problems were some frame breakages. they were repairing them for free but frames were on back order. I'm pretty sure they have it sorted out by now. They compare pretty well. KTM had a few bikes in top 10 at Loretta in 7-8 class. in 4-6 class Cobra had 10 out of the top 11 spots. in 7-8 it was like this: Cob,KTM,POL,COB,COB,KTM,COB,KTM,KTM,KTM...
So yeah they compare. A lot narrower of a bike.

One of our local racers went from a Cobra CM50 to a new KTM Pro JR and rides it a lot faster, He also has a KTM OI for the 4-8 class. We have both a OI for 4-8 and a Pro JR for the 4-6 So far I am happy with orange.

I bought it it seems to be in great shape I payed $1,600 and it came with alot of extras. Is this a desent price? It sounds like the clutch is difficult to adjust what is the best aftermarket clutch? Thanks for replying to my post.

2001 Sr pro's had a couple problems, if you keep on top of them you should be ok.
-check frame for cracks and bad welds every ride
-make sure you have either the WP or the adjustable Paolli (sp)
-check waterpump shaft often
-use brake/electric motor cleaner to clean the stator and around it often.
-the 3 shoe clutch is easy to get to work right, just take it apart and clean the washers every 5-10 hr. Make sure to tourque the clutch hub nut to 22lbs only. Stack the washers like this in a 2001 and you should be fine.
This end is the Head of the bolt: ()()()())))))) l l l
The last 3 are the flat shims, the last 2 should be the thin ones.
Hope this helps.

Good question. My 2002 KTM Sr Pro has been flawless, my 2001 Sr Pro's had problems. It could be that it took me a year to learn the preventative maintanace that it takes to make them reliable. We have a very fast kid here that runs Cobra's, and they haven't complained. Getting parts for either can be a challenge sometimes. But for the same price, the Cobra sounds like a better deal. Good luck.

I just had the water pump off and was looking at the end of the crank where that part for the pump rides and noticed that it was worn on the edges very slightly what do you do when this wares out? replace crank?
Thanks

The crank end won't wear out, it's the end of the waterpump shaft that gets rounded out. When the w/p shaft wears out, you replace the shaft, 2 bearings and possibly the w/p seal. Not a tough job, spendy though (to me).

They are both fast. $1600 for an o2King is a smoking deal for around where I live. they are still selling for $2200-$2500. They are both fairly reliable. The real key for both bikes is preventative Maintenance. But I haven't heard of Kings breaking frames. Have seen at least 3 01KTMs break frames here in Az. WE like our Cobra's But I do like the new Pro Jr. too.

I bought the cobra also came with alot of extras cylinder, head cables, ect. were is the best place to get parts for the cobra over the internet? I also rode both bikes around the yard and the cobra seemed alot faster but the workmanship on the ktm is so mutch better the cobra looks like it was made in the mid 80's. so now I have to deside witch one to keep. Decisions, Decisions

Brandon,
Gimme a shout on e-mail. Not a lot of places to get parts on the net. Threat racing is a good place. they ship fast. Also PeeWee Powersports is a great place but my um er their web site isn't finished.

My little brother has a used 1999 ktm 50 lc and his clutch has blown 5 times now in the 1 year that we've owned it. My dad has done a full clutch replacement 2 times and it still blows just about everytime he rides it. My dad says he will never bie a used bike again.

hey bent, sounds like you have another problem other than clutches. the ktm has been raced hard by many people and they don't seem to have clutch problems. most people suffer from setup problems. go talk to egracing he is a ktm specialist. He runs 70 kits in some of the air cooled ktm's without smoking clutches. I believe its www.egracing.com

Hillclimber, my son raced an old king cobra in the 50cc flattrack races. It was very competitive until this year. The 2002 cobras ate it up on the halfmile. If you need parts, talk to Jim Inman or Scott Mason at The Cobra Clinic #270-898-2412. I don't think they are online, but they do excellent work and can get whatever parts you need withing a couple of days. They even rebuilt our clutch within 3days right before the nationals. Good luck.
