I'm looking for dealers in California with the best price for CRF450s. Thank you.

I have seen real good prices at Corona Honda:

I saw 2001 CR250's for $5099 about six months ago. They had a 2001 KX500 for $4699. Good prices for CA.

Re: Go Out of State

You pay CA sales tax when you go to register the bike (red/green stickie). The only way around sales tax is to not register it for 90 days after taking ownership - and even that may not work if the person at the DMV knows what their doing and requires that you get an exemption from the State Board of Equalization.

That's not entirely correct.

The Franchise Tax Board will not be owed any money if the bike was purchased out of state and kept out of state for 90 days.

This is easy to verify just by calling FTB. And for obvious reasons, this is VERY popular with big ticket (otherwise taxable) items like yachts and planes.

Here in San Diego, the boats go to Ensenada, Baja, Mexico to get refurbished and viola, 90 days have elapsed.

For planes, most folks park them in Las Vegas, and jump on Southwest to go visit their newly purchased plane until the 90 days expire.

This rule does not mean that you can't enter California within the 90 days. Merely, it must be "based" outside of California.

Street legal, emission equipped bikes with odometers have a differences to the rules which I have not addressed.

Here's Some Links

http://www.boe.ca.gov/pdf/pub61.pdf

Vehicles Purchased Outside of California - A presumption is made that if a purchaser brings a vehicle into California more than 90 days after purchase, excluding time of shipment to California and time of storage for shipment to California, the vehicle was not purchased for use in the California and the use tax does not apply.

6248. On and after the effective date of this section there shall
be a rebuttable presumption that any vehicle bought outside of this
State which is brought into California within 90 days from the date
of its purchase, and which is subject to registration under Chapter 1
(commencing with Section 4000) of Division 3 of the Vehicle Code,
was acquired for storage, use, or other consumption in this State.

Now that I think about it, I doubt if any dealer is going to give you a deal on a 450. I remember how dealers were with the YZ400f's. They sold every one they could get, why give a discount? I am sure Honda will sell every bike they make and then some. My riding buddy has had a deposit for one since March, and I know a couple of guys around here that say they also have deposits on the 450's. Good luck.

Tony,
Think you could take care of the FTB for me regarding the Patio Hauler 5th wheel I bought in WA and brought into CA 95 days later? I've got the info from the FTB in front of me and it looks like I can get around it but the FTB does want 'their' money....

I know this is not in Calif. or even in th great US of A but.........

Dynamic Honda - ask for Andy
514-828-5058 - Canada

They will have them in stock on Oct. 17th
$7900 - Canadian
$5123 - US

No tax..No Duty
$300 to ship to the US

Every dealer in Orange County has at least 10 deposits and all will be asking MSRP ($6299) plus whatever else they can stick you for.

Good luck!:)

Yes, the FTB sent me notices for YEARS on the purchase of an airplane that I bought IN THE STATE and that the dealer did collect the sales tax.

I'm not in a position to help you any more than what I've offered on this forum, but remember, these folks are paper shufflers. Be persistent, and hopefully you have good records that the unit was out of state for that time period (receipts from a storage lot in Oregon?).

I paid about $6300 for my '98 YZ400F out the door. It was full MSRP plus "set-up" (which, hopefully, we all know is paid by the manufacturer to the dealer) plus sales tax.

I was number XX on the list at Sacramento (Capital) Yamaha, and it seems a cash full pop deal instantly got me to the number one position;)
