The stock fork springs are very soft and use a lot of preload. Several manufacturers had soft springs and stiff valving in the early and mid 90's. Look on the mx-tech.com site for a recommendation on the correct spring rate for your weight. Use around 10mm of preload. I think stock is around 28mm. Oddly, the initial travel (small rocks and roots) is softer even with the stiffer fork springs due to the difference in preload. The stiffer (correct rate) fork springs will keep the bike from diving in the turns, keep the proper front and rear balance, etc. It will also allow you to better make use of the increased power you bought. Though it is mostly the idea of setting it up properly, it turns out to be an improvement and hop-up as well. :-)
