My son is 7 years old has been riding since he was 4. He's on a XR50 now and wants to race (enduro). He's got about 3 races under his belt and is a very good rider. He's disgusted with his XR because he can't keep up with the KTM 50's in his class. He can only race this class for another year then he'll need to move up to the Intermediate kid 0-85cc 7-10 yr old class. These are some of my options although I'm open to suggestions.

1. purchase a KTM 50 for him to ride for 1 year
2. purchase a 60 or 65 for him to get ready to race the next class next year.
3. hop up his XR, (pipe, filter, cam) to make his current bike more competitive.
4. leave everything the way it is. Wait and find a bike next year.

4. Let him become a better rider on the xr. He will, trying to keep up with 2 strokes will definetly make him a better rider. Then buy him an outstanding 80 next year and watch him smoke everyone.

I would go for the 65 if he is ready because it is going to be at least 2 or 3 years before he is ready for an 85 unless he is alot taller then most?

Actually, he's much shorter than most. He's about 5 inches short of touching the ground on a 65. But like he told me, "Dad, I don't need to touch while I'm riding". :aj:

then I still say go for the 60 or 65 if he is ready to move up a class, and it will be a few years before he is ready for a 85.
