Just picked up a new oldie. Can anyone give me some historical tech or experience on this bike. It does not have reeds, whats up with that? Also no idle screw only adjustment is at the cable. the slide has a relief for the idle screw but the carb was not taped for it? Feels like it has a bundle of flywheel. A slow rever with strong low end. Seems to run well. perhaps a little fat on the needle. Curious as too what Suzuki was up to at the time. Thanks.

I've got an 80 model 250 that I am restoring, and my stock carb was like yours, no idle screw. Just the way they made them back then.....My stock carb was rich also, but the bike had been sitting up for about 9 years before I got it. Parts inside the carb had corroded and a section of the float bowl baffle plate had totally rusted away! I found a new carb for it on ebay, and that things run like a top now, and has an idle screw as well! As for the reeds, my engine has them. I wonder if someone took yours out, before you got the bike?

The RM's had case reeds,
RM parts are quite easy to find, most vintage bike shops have guards, side panels decals etc.
I have a 79 RM 400 I restored for vintage racing and ir goes really well.
Just fitted a set of Ohlins shocks to it.

No place for reeds. airboot connects right to cylinder and the ports hit the piston. If there are reeds they would have to be hidden. Were there case reeds inside the motor?

The reeds are in the motor.
If you take the cylinder off the reed block bolts into the bottom of the cylinder,and fits into the cases.
