Just rebuilt my sons '92 KX125. Everything looked good but I put in a new piston, rings, wrist pin and bearing, Boyeson 2 stage reeds, cleaned the carb, repacked the silencer, cleaned the air cleaner and re-oiled. Now that it's done, it starts right up, idles well, and revs well as long as there's no load on it. When I test rode it I can feed it gas slow to medium, but it I nail it it just boggs until I let off. I did lower the float because the former owner had it real high, it ran over when you tilt it. What do you think? Thanks!!

FLOATS

Sounds like you lowered the floats too much. When you wick the throttle open, the carb does not have enough suction to pull the fuel from the bowl because the level is too low.
It's ok that the fuel runs out of the carb when you tilt the bike. It's supposed to do that. As long as it does not pour out when the bike is upright, they're OK.
Of course, it is possible to set the level too high...
Call the service dept of your local Kawi dealer and he/she should be able to tell you the proper float level settings for your bike.

More info: I do know that the float level is supposed to be 16MM +-2. The guy at the place where I buy parts said that the float "feels heavy". I'm going to buy a new float in case he is right and the float has absorbed fuel over time (but of course no one has one). I'm also going to change the inline fuel filter while I'm at it. The float was way too high when I tore this thing down, I'm wondering if the float is not as boyant as it's supposed to be and he compensated by raising the float????I have tried adjusting the air screw and it's at 2 turns now. I don't have a book, but I know that most carbs should be around 1 1/2. BTW, when I said that it ran over when I tilted it over, I meant that even on the triangle stand if you left the fuel on it ran out of the overflow. Thanks for the info, keep it coming if anyone has more! Thanks!;)

I don't know if floats can absorb fuel, but it sounds feasible. How much does a float cost anyway? You're right that your bike should not overflow on the triangle stand. Replacing your fuel filter should help, too. Good luck!

a float is $30 is why I wanted another opinion first. Sounds like a lot for a chunk of plastic. Guess it must be hand carried from Japan!

Did you also rejet for the new reeds? Go 1-3 down on the main jet. Also just to help ya check to see if the main jet is in place, strange but true I had this problem before on a KX80 when I tried giving it full throttle it would bog because the main jet was lying down in the float bowl. This may not be your problem but it's worth a shot to check :) Save your money I don't suspect that your floats are bad. (I've seen casrb floats from the 1970s still is good condition).
