Just picked up a 96 rmx250. Great bike for the type riding I do and its in fairly good shape.
I can't seem to get over how ugly the rear render is. Is it possible to put a fender of a rm, mabey even a newer rm. Or does anybody make differant fenders for this model. I don't need the tailight.

apb is correct; I had one on my '97 RMX for a year or so - used an older Acerbis black enduro extension, a la older KTMs.

UFO also made a yellow turned-down enduro fender for the '89-'92 RMs, but I bought the last three availble from the distributor, and sold them some months ago. If you are patient they can be found on the 'bay or elsewhere.

oilspot: if you do a search for placelast's rmx posts, you'll get lots of other good info on what suzuki parts interchange with our bikes.

placelast: how are you liking new mexico? are you still able to ride year-round there?

It's 8:30 pm and it's only 48 degrees.... yeah you can ride year round here.
I didn't expect to get this much feedback this quick!!! Are there any sites or forums just for the rmx's (not that i'm not getting great support here, just wondering)

just reread the thread and realized that your in las cruces placelast.

Oh -- you two both live in the same town.. Maybe you'll run into eachother on the trail. No, I'm not aware of any rmx-specific forums -- its kind of a dying breed since they quit bringing them to the states in '98. But theres a few of us still riding them and having a blast too!

NM is okay. I'd rather be back in CA since our sons are there, there's a larger DRN contingency, and all the enduros; nonetheless this is where we'll be for a while and will make the best of it - suffice to say I'm grateful to be gainfully employed and to have a few to ride with.

There's not a lot of folks who ride here, despite the vastness of available land, and the big four have shops in town. It may be the economic constraints, why most don't do off road. Or perhaps street and quads are a bigger thing. Those who I do ride with are much faster although do put up with me as I can be counted on to show up for any ride.

Riding can be done almost all year (been here for only 6 months) though it does get rather hot and hence risky in the summer; then you could head to the high mountains (8k'+) and ride in the coolness/trees/stram crossings, about 2 hrs away, door-to-staging. The rainy season is oddly in late summer, which produces some near-epic riding.

Last weekend I met up with a few guys who had done the Baja 1k (only saw them at trail breaks!) south of Alamogordo in an area called Red Sands. It had snowed and rained the previous night - can you say primo? I had doubts on the drive out as ice formed in a big way on my bike and pickup's leading edges - even the antenna did not fully retract due to the cold. It wa 30 degrees! So I got to ride in my MSR snow/wet riding gear - first time in years, and the grip warmers came in handy. Real fun, other than my four eyes getting fogged up on our first loop - must have been all my panting.

Oil: I hadn't realized you were in Cruces. Email me and we'll get together for a ride. hit-n-miss @ delextreme.com (remove spaces to send).

Yep; the snow sure surpised me this morning, like several inches, eh?!

The owner of Bandlands and I are going to Corralitos to scout new sections for the race in March. I'd ask you to come along but he's fast and it's not my ride. We can do the course at a later date and/or when he brings out the trail crew. I've always had a good time helping with the course.

Just took my rmx out for the second ride this afternoon. It's my first full size bike.
I rebuilt a 1970 honda ct70 a few months back with my son (3 years old) and got the dirtbike bug playing with that thing. The rmx is my first full size bike and I've got mabey 45minutes on it. I'm lookin forward to gaining enough riding experiece to take off riding with other people but don't want to be a burden holding anybody back.
Not trying to sound pathetic I just tknow I would be like pulling a lead weight at this point.
I'm getting a feel for it pretty quick though. Mabey after a few weeks when I get a little experience under my belt.

Okay; let me know when you are ready. Most of us were in that place at one time or another and fully understand, so think nothing of it.

Corralitos is a good place as they have a large, flat stagin area and mini-loop.

where is corralitos. How far from cruces, or is it in cruces??? (I've lived here for 12 years and I'm asking you). I'm sure I'm surrounded by trails because I'm right on the edge of the desert.
I need to talk to the guys down at badlands to find out where some riding spots are out here on the west side of town. I've got to go pick up some parts from them in the next couple of days anyhow.

Corralitos is the *next* exit going west on I-10 after the Love's Truck stop when heading towards Tuscon; not the truck stop exit, but afterwards. I usually gas up at the Exxon on the Corralitos exit. Then go south on the overpass to the other side of the fwy. Hang a right at the frontage rd. Follow the road a mile (over the cattle guard) or so to where it splits or "wyes" (the pavement continues left to the landfill); take a right on the the graded road. After a mile it then veers to the left away from the fwy, towards the hill with the towers. A few miles later it crosses another cattle guard; take the second left to a wide, flat area where they stage/start/finish the races.

There is a shade/structure they built for the events. The arrow on the side points in the direction the folks are riding the 25-mile loop for that day. It's difficult to get lost since the towers are usually in view. It is a BLM designated riding area.

Badlands had a KTM demo day there last October or so. I did not find out until afterwards, and that it had rained on and off that weekend (both days), not that I wanted to ride any of the new models or that any would have needed my assistance but I would have done sweep then just for the fun as I was anxious to ride with the desert being wet but could not get anyone to go out - if I had only known!

They sponsored a race in November, and it is scheduled sooner in March of this year. Do come out the weekends or days beforehand and on the race days to help or just watch - it's fun and there are a whole range of folks who skills are from beginner to advanced who make up the work crew so don't feel intimidated - you'll fit right in and your presence welcomed.

There is another BLM area closer to the airport, to the southeast on the south side of the fwy. I've never been there although have heard it's whooped out.

Then there's the BLM area NE of town. It is mostly two track, though there are a series of MTB trails that are quite fun; please don't tell your spandex-wearing friends know as I'm sure they'd be more than displeased, but hey: someone needs to break in their trails; afterall, we were there first and share a common cause.

I'm close enough that I could get there in probably 5minutes or less riding from my house.
Is the area normally closed off or is it always opened????
I did some more riding today. I'm starting to get more of a feel for the bike. Man it's fun!!!!!
