As if 40+ dyno runs weren't enough...
I am going to baja for a 1200 mile honeymoon ride w/ Fe_princess.
The bike has been great so far, exceeding my expectations.
The broadness of the power delivery has almost erased the sensation of the rev limiter.
We are getting married the end of the month and taking a guided tour down baja with trail boss tours and 3 other couples.
Our guide suggested I gear for 70-80 mph cruise speed.
I ordered new 14/46 gearing for my bike.
With one fell swoop I can lay to rest any misgivings of big-bore 426 reliability issues.

But will you lay to rest any misgivings of marriage? :)

Did you get the spoke I sent you? I expect that test ride on your YZF on your way down to Baja! ;)

When Denise asks me what I am thinking and I tell her that I am compare and contasting the merits of masterstyle cam grinding versus cnc cam grinding and the liberty of freeing the base circle from the effective duration of the cam...
She then asks me to explain and is actualy interested.
My only misgiving is I know how big my ego is and I forget to witness how much my life has changed for the better since she has come into it.
If I can maintain my ability to be a gracious friend to her I am not worried.

I look forward to your spoke. A new spoke set is 68$ and I am grateful for your contribution.
We are driving down to San Diego Christmas night to leave for our ride on the 26th.
If you want to come up I am sure you will be welcome to rip the 440 around.
I can also give you a great show of the nor-cal trails...

Bill,

Best wishes to you both!

I forgot to ask you when we talked last, is your fiancee going to be riding her own bike, or will you guys be two up on this trip?

I wish we'd done something as epic for our honeymoon. Canada was cool, but Baja would've been cooler!

PJ,
Denise is riding her KTM.
I can't tell you how much fun we are having in anticipation of this trip.
One day is all beach riding, and our longest day is 250 miles.
Our gear is packed and I am doing a last massage to the bikes.
There will be 3 other couples riding on this trip and I look forward to new friends;)

Man, your rear's are gonna be numb!!

Pictures, I wanna see pictures when you get back!

We got another 7" of snow last night - a nice accompaniment to the 15" we already had on the ground from last week. I guess we're done dual sporting until next spring :(

Congrats on your getting hitched Bill!! And another congrats on your trip to
Baja. We'll have to hook up one day and do some riding. I have a friend (Jason) and his wife rides so maybe they could come. Unfortunately mine
doesn't ride, but I always take my two boys.

Have FUN and stay SAFE.

1400 miles later...

15/44 gearing, could have gone 15/40...
I was able to pass the xr650's while side by side in 5th.
On the rear wheel.
The bike didn't break but it is tired now.
The last day it seemed low on compression and it started to blow smoke out of the crank breather.
I was wide open in fifth and forth the whole friggen time!
Jeez, what a blast!

this is a super stale post, btw, just revived it to say Denise and I are great.
The yzf had a small problem with the piston, it had started to rip the wrist pin bosses out of the crown of the piston, I guess removing that 85grams of material from the underside of the piston created some compromises structurally.
I guess all the dyno runs and 1400miles of wfo running in baja found its service limit.

Hey Bill, saw your reply after 2 years, had to see what was going on. Great to here everything going well. I had to chuckle thinking about this ride you went on with Ron Winget from Wi! Btw, got to meet Doug Henry 2 weeks ago, he was up here doing an ice race at Lake Konshkanog.

Later Mike
