I wanted to know if I have to use the NGK R6918B-8 plug that is called for in my RM, or can I use a BR8ES .The plug that is called for this bike is $18.00. Will I hurt my bike by using another plug.Help
But I was told that the ignition was different on the 99 and newer models. That why this high dollar plug is what suzuki recommend. The 94 model is not required to use the expensive plug. But Thanks anyway.
ALL OK, maybe suzuki likes to recommend expensive plugs. I had a 95 rmx and it just called for a normal plug. Then I got this rm and it blowed my mind when the plug is going to be $18.00. I just don't want to mess the bike up.And I sure don't want to use a $18.00 plug.Done fouled 1. Didn't last any longer than the cheaper plugs. I appeciate the info.
We ran Champ RN3C's in our 99 and 01 RM125s with good results. These plugs are a big $1.25 a the local Fleet Farm store; $.99 on sale.
The tale of the spendy plug is that there have been instances of the ground tang breaking off on regular plugs. While we had no such trouble with the Champs, a neighbor kid had an NGK break one off on his 00 CR125.
Wade, I run a procircuit pipe and I got a big improvement everywhere in the powerband. Biggest improvement in the low to midrange. Also, the jetting on the 99 is terrible. My bike was so rich on the bottom that it would barely idle let alone pull cleanly through the midrange. once that was cleaned up, the bike has very good low end with the procircuit pipe and pulls very well on top.(more overrev)
Thanks Darringer, could you tell me what jettings I should have in this 99 rm 125.It is a stock bike, pipe and everything. But I don't know if someone has messed with the jetting. It has a 180 main,55 pilot, and the needle is on the 4th clip down.
Ours was terrible rich, too. Goo literally poured out of the pipe with the stock jetting, which are the jets you listed. We ended up with 48 pilot and 168/170 main, depending on the weather. Also, one other note- Boyesen Pro reeds made a VERY good difference on that bike.
BTW, if you are interested in a Turbine Core SA silencer, I have one in excellent condition.
What kind of weather would you be refering to? I live in North Carolina, usually warm weather, staying around 55 to 70 right now. Thanks for the information MN KDXER.
Wade,I went way smaller with the pilot. All the way down to a 40. After doing this the bottom cleaned up nicely. Unfortunately, it created a flat spot in the transition to the midrange which I was able to correct with a needle 1 size richer(R1468MS). I run this at varying clip positions as the weather dictates. I usually ride in 45 to 70 degree temps at or near sea level. I've been running the 180 main with good results. The bike has a procircuit pipe and boyesen power reeds in it now but had this jetting in it with the stock pipe, also. The bike runs very well now as it never misses a beat even when I trail ride at very low rpm. With this jetting I have never fouled a plug, even after bogging around for extended periods. I hope this helps. Sorry about the long post!
Good luck!;)
I had this year and model for two years i ran a br8es in it with no problems.I also had a procircuit and an fmf pipe and silencers. The procircuit will give more low to mid the fmf will give you more mid to top.after you get the pipe you want definately get a rad valve it was worth every penny, just make sure to rejet you willhave to drop a few jets toward the lean side.get a honda cr clutch perch and lever it will lighten the pull and i didnt abuse the clutch as bad. :moon: :think
Been running the BR8es/ev plugs since new in my 99 RM 125 and never had any problems.
As for jetting It's still rich down low also with a 48 pilot (slow jet), the stock clip in the 3rd position and a 170 main. This weekend I'll be messing with the clip position and see how the new rear gearing change does. Went from the stock 50 to a 52 on the rear.
As for pipes I think any one you choose would be a good choice. The FMF SST gave me more bark all the way around.
Darringer, did you try the#45 pilot at all? Where do you run your air screw out at?
Jeff, I also went to a 52 rear sprocket. You will like the results! I tried every pilot jet on the way down to a 40. I was afraid it was going to be too lean but I still run my air screw out about 1.5 to 2 turns depending on the weather(Cold mornings, warm afternoons). I tried leaner main jets in the bike but went back to stock after checking the plug color. It was very light, almost white in color, but with stock 180 it is light gray. Let me know how it goes.
Thanks alot for the help.Let me know how you like that 52 sprocket.I might try it.So far I'm at a 195 main,52 pilot and I did buy the pro-circuit pipe.I had to go up on my main jet, my plug was to light. It's still a light tan I guess it's ok.I'm not worried about the plug anymore.I started using the es8 and have had no problems.
