THere probably isn't too many that will admit it but I'm not sure that the 250F that I have (I've had for over a year) is going to the "ticket" for HS and Enduros. So, I'm thinking of picking up a YZ250 2 stroke to use for racing HS/CC?Enduros. I'm tired of dumping money in the F to get more HP's and make it lighter and I have a real pblm with the sound tests that they are giving in NorCal at the Enduros.
What do you all think about a '99 YZ250?

I would rather get a 2000 but I can get this for a decent price and it seems in good shape (I'll be looking at it later today).

Any advantages to the 2000 compared to the '99?

Thx!!

My friend has a 99'YZ 250 modded for the woods. All we ride is cross-country and harescrambles. He changed the gearing, and put a FMF Gnarly pipe for more more low-end torque. The bike actually has too much bottom end hit for my liking(it lost alot of top-end with the pipe too). The bike has incredible low-end torqe. It is a great woods machine:cool: .

i rode a 99 yz250 in the woods and loved it. spend your money on a flywheel weight and suspension revalve. you may need a larger fuel if you run longer events. i also had a steering dampner which is nice.

I have a 00 YZ, just got it last weekend and did a 2 hour mx yesterday but the track was more like a short cross country, with laps no longer than 8 mins but not what i would call a motocross track. The bike ran great, only problem i would say is that i wasnt ready for 2 hous of racing, and that it wasnt hooking up the way im used to, havent raced for 3 months and coming off a RMX 250 and still getting used to the bike, but a heavier flywheel maybe the answer to it, but awesome power everywhere else and like i said getting used to the bike is the main problem, and havent raced for so long. As for it compared to a 99 i wouldnt know, my RMX was a 94 and the difference is amazing, the YZ is SO much better in all departments.

jimt,

I ride a with a buddy who ride a 00 YZ 250. His mods include, larger fuel tank, suspension revalve, "O"ring chain, FMF Pipe w/Turbine Core II S/A, flywheel, steering damper and a few other little items. I've rode the bike and it is a hoot to ride! Off road manners are very good!
