A few pictures from the farm

I was in North Carolina a few months back and took a few pictures at my friend's farm. My pictures don't do justice to how beautiful this place is.

i really wish there was more landscape where we farm. its just flat, no hills, no natural trees.

Nice shots, Rich, I really like the one with the work horses and the little ramshackle shed down the hill. Obviously, there wasn't any snow when you took that pic, but whatever you did, that has Christmas Card written all over it!

North Carolina is a beautiful state. Someone with your talent could find lots to shoot down there.

Thanks guys. That whole area is awe inspiring. Having spent most of my time pointing my camera at city scenes, it was really fun to take pictures down there. Sort of frustrating though. It's tough (for me at least) to really capture how breathtaking the whole thing is.

My friend's wife calls their place beautiful in an "ordinary" kind of way. I guess it seems ordinary if you are from NC, but for a life long city boy there is nothing ordinary about it. :)

I also like the one of the two draft horses in the field.

The first photo looks like a turkey exploded and the last one reminds me of Gomer and elk for some reason. :rotfl:

As much as I like the mid-west, I prefer the scenery and, especially, right about now, the weather, in these parts! Working on the trails this week, in 70 degree weather was much better than what is going on back there this week. :cool: :ride:

That second shot of the horses in the field uses an infrared software filter for the effects. I've been fooling around with infrared since my time 10 years ago in the video engineering lab at US Robotics. Back then I converted one of our web camera products into a prototype camera that worked in a zero visible light setting using non-visible light emitting infrared LEDs built into the body of the camera to light a dark room. It was really fun and it gave me the chance to learn some cool stuff about infrared radiation and the overall light spectrum. Who knew physics could be so cool? :whoa:

The software filters work really well, but it's still not the same as using a converted camera and actually recording the IR. Seeing how good the software filter works makes me really want to pull the trigger on converting my D40X to infrared only use. I think it would be worth the effort after seeing some of the shots that guys like Vincent Versace get with a converted DLSR IR camera.

Great Photo's Rich! I need to book mark these for future reference. One day I'll have the time to dual sport around the countryside and shot pics of old Farms, barns, and homesteads!
