Teeds,
I am a cycle lifer. Started out on Indian 50 in the mid 70's, then aquired a ragged out 73 XR75. I put in a 98cc kit,PK cam, porting,Alphabet pipe, XL 100 carb w/CB400four manifold DG seat Preston Petty fenders etc...( can you tell I'm old yet), enough on that, just wanted to amuse you. Went to a 1980 YZ80 on to a Seca 550 Kerker, K&N, S&W shocks etc...Then 1985 YZ250 & a XT250 then a XL600 & XT600 then a 1986 FZ600(first year). Was out for a few years then a basket case Suzuki 230 Quadsport, then a Quadracer250 and a Honda TRX250r (1987 Nix piston, cobra pipe Boyeson, port work, milled head,Ricky Stator lighting etc...), never should have sold that one. I just sold my Polaris Trailblazer 250 about a month ago whew!!! TOOO SLOW. Now have a 03' Sportsman 400. My 6 year old has a 50cc quad & a KTM 50 Adventure SR, Oh I've also had a mint 1974 Mr. 50 Elsinore for the last 22 years.
I am looking to buy a YZ250 1998-2001 and am trying to find out if any major differences in these models, any info would be helpful before I purchase.

Welcome again to the site! There is a tremendous brain trust here that can probably answer all your questions relating to the differences between the various year models.

My first bike was a 71 Penton 125 ISDT ... still have it and it has a set of Preston Petty fenders on it to boot. After about 15 years without a running bike, I purchased a 1999 YZ125 that I kept for about a year ... bad mistake as I didn't want a bike with a light switch for a throttle. After riding every bike I could get my hands on over the next year, I settled on the KTM 400MXC. Shortly there after I discovered DRN and nothing has been the same since. I have found more info and better friendships than I could ever imagined here.

BTW ... Does windsor427 relate to old Fords? I always favored the rat motor myself but that is a story for another time ...

Great bike based upon everything that I have heard. KTM is top of the line in my book. Counting my old Penton, I have three!

Post up in KTM / Euro Bikes forum if you have ANY questions. There is a bunch of really smart folks lurking in there.
