Hi, I'm new here at Dirtrider.net. I have a question about the power valve on my 2003 RM85.

I heard that you can remove the power valve of the RM and KX 85s and their powerband will behave like a YZ or CR's. I recently rode my friend's YZ80 and I really liked the powerband on that bike! I think a mid-high powerband would suit me better. I ride mostly tracks and large, open fields with an occasional trail ride every month. I am full-throttle in a lot of places, even on the local trails. I really don't need the RM's low end like I thought I would.

I would like to verify if removing the power valve will make my RM feel like A YZ/CR. Thank you for your time and help.

You will lose the low end power and gain NOTHING on the top.

If you just want to change the feel, you might try turning the powervalve spring preload adjuster counterclockwise 1/4-1/2 turn.

If you want more top end, I hear the popular aftermarket pipes are pretty good. Combined with good porting, the RM will really sing.

I had a 2003 rm85 and it had a top end out of this world. A good pipe is the procircuit works pipe some v-force reeds that should give it a little boost because before my bike was stolen I beat every other 85 in a drag race but I also had other mods on my 85 because it was used for racing.
