Ok, this is a bit of an odd situation... but were an odd bunch, we can handle it. My riding partner is interested to see if he can add a rev limiter to his wifes TT125L. When we ride we often take out newbie riders, and they can be quite abusive on the TTR, as any inexperienced rider can be. A rev limiter would help a lot, for the obvious protection of blowing the thing to bits, but also, if it could be set low enough, to help the new riders learn to shift. Is a rev limiter even a concern on a TTR125? Or does it really not have much of a problem sustaining overrevving? We are doing are best to get out one new rider a month. We were pretty successful last year, and when we get out again this year we want to introduce some more people to riding. But my buddy is just worried about his bike wifes bike, rightfully so. :think

There wouldn't be a way of actually adding a rev limiter - unless there's another CDI WITH a rev limiter that would work for the TTR125. None of the other TTR's have rev limiters that I know of either. There may be something from one of the little Yamie quads that would work - unfortunately it would be a trial and error thing.

The TTR can float valves if revved too high. But they do withstand over rev better than most small four strokes. Shifting without the clutch and lugging this engine will give about the same amount of wear and tear as over rev. The best insurance against any of these actually causing damage would be to run a really good quality oil and change it frequently. Other than that, there's not much to do but keep an ear out to hear how the new rider is handling the shifing duties.

My buddy added an adjustable rev limiter to his DR350 after he had a 435 big bore and cam swap in fear of exploding the top end.It was 100.00 he bought it from Chapparral and it worked great.A small dial tuned the rev limit and it worked off the ignition. It was a little bigger than a cigarrette pack.

Weekendtoy, got a URL for Chapparral? That would be great. That sounds like just the thing. Any idea what the adjustable range was on it. Installation? Stuff like that. Thanks for the info.

If you want to train people when to shift

Install a shift light that lights up at a certain rpm.
Dynatech among others makes one with adjustable inserts with predetermined shift points.
It runs off of a plug wire and they even make helmet mounted ones.
