On Black Friday Best Buy had a deal going were you could get Adobe Photoshop Elements 7 and Premiere Elements 7 for only $90. That made it a great time for me to finally move up from Elements 2.0. Anyway, up 'til now, I've always used Caonon's Digital Photo Professional to adjust and convert my raw files. Well after try the Adobe Camera Raw utility all I can say is ... HOLY CRAP!!!

It just seems to do so much better at correcting exposure. I was fiddling with a random photo from the Redbud National, and what was once garbage became one of my favorite shots of the entire weekend!

Since my editing skills are continuing to improve I went back to see if maybe now, five months later, I could accomplish the same thing with DPP. I could come close, but just couldn't achieve the same dynamic range as with ACR. The difference is much more pronounced at full size than it appears here.
