Lots of us gals started riding in our 30's & 40's. I'm a novice at 43 and manage to stay up on 2 wheels. You can't let us old gals show you up!

I am 41, I started racing/riding 3yrs ago.I'm not very fast but neither are the young guys in 250C class .To quote a bud of mine at a recent stadium race "those kids were singling that, and here comes you, big as a house jumpin over their heads". BOO-YAH!

P.S you too will get old my son!

Yeah, what heywood said, I'm 45 and I've got two 30 year olds started riding this year. Ive been riding for 25 years, and have a friend that rips and he's close to 60.... My hero.

Trust me, I know.. I'm being sarcastic, giving a stupid answer to a stupid question what have you..

There is a local 60 year old rider who wins the +50 Masters races (MX). I can barely hang with him on a good day and I'm 20.

Ok while Im approching 40 real soon and Ive broken my share of bones this year I will never give up riding. My wife thinks Im nuts but what the heck, sure beats being a couch potato

Hardly, Take a look at the number of 50 year olds at Hare scramble or desert race and don't get to discouraged as they blow by! you won't heal as fast as 16 but you're probably smarter now.
When I was 30 I was roadracing, that was 17 years ago.

Too old, yeah right, don't make me laugh :)

I started at 14, now 35, easily keeping up with most much younger riders on the track, and passing a lot of them too. The only difference is, if I get hurt now, it'll take twice as long to heal. You're only too old when you have to start wearing Depends (old fart diapers).

Too Old?

Been trail riding most of my life, but didn't really MX until I was 32, and in much worse shape than I am now. I'm 37 now and have had to get a few breaks and tears repaired but am in better shape and a whole lot faster on the track that I was at 32. I won't hardly ride on the trails now, I spend as much time at the track trying to keep improving.
It great to go to a new track with big jumps and technical sections and be able to get them figured out pretty quick.
Watch out, You'll get hooked!

At the crusty age of 20, I am starting to get up there in age and just don't ride with reckless abandon like I did when I was a young lad of, say, 18. I am starting to carry more tools with me, when I used to not take a thing, thinking "all or nothing." Sorry, this old timer does ramble on sometimes...

The point is, I manage despite my age.

P.S. I was being sarcastic.:silly:

42 here!

My last bike was a 1973 Yamaha 80 I got new, it was over 25 years before I'd get my next one. Been riding little more than 1 1/2 now on a 125, started racing 2 months ago and just did my 5th mx race. (never had raced as a youth) I now have 3 trophys to be sportin' in my office:) place 5, 4 & 2nd. I may not be the fastest or the best but hey, I look at it like sex, as long as I enjoy it:debil:

I'm almost 42.
My situation is similar to Jeff's, but I had quite a few more bikes as a kid.
I also ride the same bike as Jeff...125sx :D

I got hurt last Jan. at an arenacross, but I love the arenacross thing and I'm gonna give the regionals a try again this year.
scotts250, I'm like you about tracks..nuttin like it. Although I did race in the DW'01 harescamble (my first) and I must say it was great. Reminded me of the old rip through the woods riding we did as kids.

I'm in the almost 40 class. I did my first MX 6 weeks ago, a night race even. My MX coach (MX547) told me to ride my own race and forget about the other guys. I have a great 8x10 now hanging in the living room, me on the Mamba airing out a big tabletop. Thanks MX547
Stay within your abilities and enjoy. The Heartland Spodes riding group keeps growing and having a blast every time we meet up for a ride. I think the youngest is 32, except for their kids. Only 1 thumper in the group but we still liked riding with him.:p
Buy yourself some gear when you get the bike. Boots, helmet, goggles, chest protector, and gloves. If you can afford the pants and jerseys that match, great, otherwise, get the closeout stuff. You may not be color coordinated but everyone looks the same after you ride in the mud anyway.
As some one as stated before, "Ride like you stole it."

Hey don't knock the 'depends'... The work great doubled-up. You don't ever have to stop on the trail and they control the monky-butt pretty well:) :)
I'm 52 and love every minute on the bike. I'm just a poser when it comes to racing but I can hang close to a bunch of guys who do (who do? :think ) I agree with the statement about "the slower you are the more motor you need":confused:

Closed Out The Season With a BANG!

I finished 10/11 (out of 11 riders!:scream: ), but you know what? I had a great time. Four of the 11 are regular riding buds, including Thunder 33 (11/10, with mechanical troubles) and Blue Thunder (7/7 in his first MX!). Nothing like being a racer. When you're not riding, no one knows how slow you are. The people in the pits just know that you're one of the crazies that races!

Here's an analogy I came up with: Riding dirtbikes is like owning your own rollercoaster. You get to ride for as long as you want, you can keep going over the big hill if you want to, you hold the keys! It doesn't get much better than that, IMO.:)

Im 38 and still kicking , even after bouncing off a few trees (enduros) I love it and will countinue as long as I can hold the bike up and then Ill install training wheels and do it all over again.Ive even got my 14 yr old son planning on starting this coming year . He will be my case crew so when I do a little tree hugging he can help get the bike off me . You are never to old to enjoy life !!!
