Ams oil

Good lubricants, WAY overpriced.
Terrible sales profile. Top shelf lubrication technologies, sold by Bubba and his band of know-nothings, that singed up to sell the products at the county fair. And they have some great products too...the way they do business is a shame really.

I have a customer that specifies Amsoil in some of their robotic equipment. As a result of using a potentially great amount of their products, we have become Amsoil dealers. But, I will NOT sell their motorcycle (or auto) products to anyone. I will direct them to some of the few dealers they have, that actually know something about tribology and lubrication. They do exist, but are far and few between. Most Amsoil salesmen are simply idiots...OK, so that is a bit strong...let's say "naive". (sorry to be so blunt)
Just as a side...Amsoil jobs out ALL of their greases. I can purchase the very same grease from the original blender for about half the cost of Amsoil, however my customer states Amsoil, so he gets Amsoil. If you ever wonder why automobiles are so expensive, it is tricks like this that make it so.

For my money, a good Type F ATF (pick one) is what I use in 2T boxes. If I feel like splurging, I may go for the Mobil1 ATF. I rarely splurge, except for my suspenders and KTM clutch.

Gota' agree with Jaybird... and I'm an Amsoil "dealer". Of course that's just because way back in the day there was no other option to get decent pricing like there is today with "preffered customer" membership. Most of the "dealers" I have experience with are salespeople not typically gearheads first. It works for them so I guess maybe I'm the idiot because I use the products and get them for friends and family through my dealership. Also like the birdman pointed out a decent Type F in the 2 stroke gearbox is a great option, I've done it for years on ours with no ill effects. At $1.29 a quart changing it often doesn't hurt.

There is a lot about oil that I won't claim to know.

However in my Harley's I ran the Harley 20/50 and my oil temp was 280 read by a temp gauge in the oil tank. I switched to Harley's Screaming Eagle brand of synthetic oil and the temp dropped to to 240-260 depending on which bike I was on. I thought that was pretty good until I tried the Amsoil 20/50 motorcycle oil on the next change. My oil temp constantly runs 215. I have since switched both Harleys to the Amsoil and have had great results.

I will assume that the cooler temps indicate better lubrication and less friction causing the lower operating temps since all three oils tried were the same weight.

I have run Amsoil Dominator at 40:1 in my CR500AF since day one with no failures, no smoke and no plug fouling.

It's true that their products are high but I'm satisfied with the results that I have had and gives me piece of mind.

This topic will heat up as usual around here. There are many on this board that would rather die than run anything but ATF in there two stroke gear box's and that works fine for them. This topic has generated so much heat in the past that the administrator shut it down.
