And it looks like Mike is 5 points out of first (Dave V - 72, LaRocco - 67) :)Last night was kind to the old guys, as duffers Mike LaRocco and David Pingree pulled down long-overdue wins in the 250cc and 125cc Western Region classes, respectively, at the Anaheim II Supercross.
In the 250cc division, Team Amsoil/Dr. Martens Honda’s LaRocco, who turns 31 in just a couple of weeks, grabbed a strong start and tracked down Team Yamaha’s David Vuillemin, the Frenchman who won rounds one and two. It was the Hoosier’s first win in seven years.
Vuillemin held on for second, finishing ahead of early leader Travis Pastrana, of SoBe Suzuki. Pastrana looked good at the front, but he hit neutral over a jump and crashed hard, losing his front number plate in the process. He remounted several spots back, and passed Team Honda’s Nathan Ramsey with an aggressive, last-lap maneuver to take the final podium position.
Following a poor start, defending champ Ricky Carmichael could only advance to fourth, though he said his head – dinged hard at round one – is now feeling fine. Following his late altercation with Pastrana, Ramsey rode the Team Honda CRF450R home in fifth. Chevy Trucks Kawasaki cohorts Ezra Lusk and Stephane Roncada were next, followed by Boost Mobile/Yamaha/Troy-mounted Australian Chad Reed.
Ninth went to Bud Light Yamaha’s Jeremy McGrath, who said he has been diagnosed with Compartment Syndrome (known less formally as arm-pump disease), and that he has been undergoing Rolfing treatment (less formally known as deep-tissue massage). After pulling the holeshot, SoBe Suzuki’s Kevin Windham faded to 10th.
In the 125cc ranks, KTM Red Bull’s Pingree, who celebrated his 27th birthday just over a week ago, survived a crash-filled main to notch his first win since topping the 2000 season opener in the same facility. Last week’s winner, James Stewart, was closing fast on Ramsey when the checkers flew, but he had to settle for second – not bad, considering he went down after grabbing the holeshot, and had to pass the rest of the field on his Chevy Trucks Kawasaki. Third went to Boost Mobile/Yamaha/Troy’s Ivan Tedesco, followed by The Racer’s Edge rider Casey Lytle and Kawasaki pilot Matt Walker.
No, that's supposed to read he will be unstoppable! :)Originally posted by Vic
