I remember back years ago there used to be a TV show on here locally called "Kentucky Afield" that was sponsored by the Ky Fish & Wildlife, (which is where that little jewel about the pioneer squirrel barkers originated). In fact, I think I remember the very episode where they show this old timer telling the squirrel tale to some wide eyed potato farmer greenhorn, from Idaho or Saskatoon, or some other Godforsaken, oxygen deprived place....
Anywho, anyone who heard the story knew it was pretty much "a long windage shot" to believe, except for the wide eyed greenhorn, whom you could tell swallowed the whole thing, tail fur and all.
:rotfl:
You guys...you kill me!
Seriously now, I have actually knocked a squirrel out of a tree to the ground, deader-'an-a-doornail, and no visible hole in the varmint at all. I always considered I missed and just got lucky.
I have also knocked them out of the limbs, and they never miss a beat as the hit the ground running, never to be seen again.
But see...you greenhorn mountain men need to be ready if you come around here thinking you are gonna just be able to shoot willy-nilly around and be able to bag squirrels...Pfffttt....
Squirrels around here mean business. These aint lil sissy Idaho hamsters we have around here....
